West Lothian Council provides education for almost 29,000 pupils
In 2007 we received a glowing report from HM Inspectorate.
The council was found to be an effective education authority making a significant and positive impact on the work of schools as well as on educational outcomes for children and young people.
The Inspectorate judged us to be excellent on four key indicators of quality and very good in three others, placing West Lothian among the very best education authorities in Scotland.
The report is full of positive comment on the work of all parts of the service.

- Evidence of the strong relationships and team working that exist between centrally based staff and schools, with the aim of delivering our shared objectives.
- Recognition of the contribution made to education by the whole service including cultural, arts and sports services.
- Recognition that our strategies to raise attainment and achievement are having a positive impact.

Education and Cultural Services employs 4,024 staff consisting of 1,800 teachers and 2,224 non-teaching staff.
