Understanding society

ONS provides a wide range of products and services that aim to advance the understanding of UK society through statistics. This work is tremendously varied and includes:

Analytical Programmes

A varied programme including earnings analysis (particularly low pay), health analysis focusing on areas of health inequality; analysis and expertise on topics such as ethnicity, identity and religion, socio–economic inequalities, social capital, e–society; and income, expenditure, and wealth.

Pensions Analysis Unit

The Unit was established to improve the quality of pensions statistics, improve knowledge and expertise of pensions in ONS and develop pensions–related analysis.

Social Trends

A reporting and analysis programme on the state of UK society, which includes flagship publications such as Social Trends, as well as a series of web–based 'Focus on' reports looking at different aspects of life in Great Britain.

We also provide a secure environment for microdata analysis and reporting combining the input of a variety of professions over a range of high profile topics.
