Measuring Government Activity
The UK Centre for the Measurement of Government Activity (UKCeMGA), was set up in July 2005 to respond to the challenges posed by Sir Tony Atkinson in his review of the measurement of government output and productivity. The Centre co-ordinates and drives forward development programmes to produce better measures of government output and productivity.
In order to do this, UKCeMGA works in partnership with other government departments, with the public services, and with the research community, as well as with other national statistical offices. UKCeMGA has initially focussed on several areas of improvement, including spending on public services, measures of public services output, and implementation. It has also explored health, education, public order and safety, and social protection.
