Benefits

What you can get

Our package of benefits reflects our commitment to rewarding our people well for what they do. We also believe that this support should extend outside the workplace. At ONS, we are well aware that, no matter how committed you are to your work, there are always external demands on your personal life – demands which sometimes seem difficult to reconcile with your career ambitions. We will do everything we can to work with you to find solutions. Getting the work/life balance right is important, and ONS recognises that employees are most likely to be happy and fulfilled in their career if they are also happy and fulfilled as people. Our flexible working policies and progressive maternity policies are just a few examples of our commitment to this.

We seek to create an environment in which employees can achieve their full potential and, in doing so, help us deliver outstanding business performance.

We help our employees develop the skills and competencies they need to perform more effectively in their current job and prepare them for more demanding roles in the future. We provide the resources for them to do this and support them in gaining further qualifications, such as an MSc. This is the key reason why ONS has such an outstanding reputation for excellence in training and development.

Total Flexible Working

We are committed to helping staff achieve an appropriate balance between work and the other areas of their lives. Most staff work flexible working hours, which allow all employees to balance their work and home life more effectively.

Training and Self-development Opportunities

As ONS is recognised as an Investor in People organisation, we make significant investment in training and development. We are committed to the continuing professional development of all our staff. At its discretion, ONS provides financial support to staff to pursue further education, eg MSc, PhD and external training courses. This may be through evening classes, National Vocational Qualifications, distance learning material or Open University courses.

We also promote wider learning and development, such as policymaking, management, communication, project management, strategy and finance.
