Research Officer
I came to ONS Geography straight from university over three years ago and have gained a wide range of experience and skills along the way (as well as a promotion!)
I’m currently working within a team which provides specialist geography support to Census. We are responsible for the delivery of maps, address lists and geographic products to support the 2011 Census and its preceding tests and dress rehearsal. My role is to research and evaluate address registers and to make a recommendation to Census on the final product to use, as well as managing staff and liaising with suppliers. Previously, I have been responsible for supporting users of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) throughout the Office and have had to carry out a number of geographic research projects. One aspect of this was to create and deliver a training course on the internal corporate GIS tool to users at all levels throughout the Office.
ONS provides a good working environment with a diverse range of work and a good career path for those that seek it. In my time here, ONS has provided me with many training opportunities and I have developed my technical, research and project management skills. As a result I am now a qualified PRINCE2 practitioner, have completed a certificate in statistics and have a wide knowledge of GIS.
